M-K-T / Katy Caboose
Extended Vision Caboose - Series 125 - 142

R. Jackson Photo, Dallas, TX Sept. 1981

These were the final waycars to be obtained new by the Katy. These extended vision type caboose were purchased from two manufactures, 125 - 134 from the Darby Corparation, 100 - 124 and 135 - 142 from the International Car Company. The first group was delivered in 1966 from International Car Company, and an additional ten 1973, the nearly identical Darby cars arrived in 1968.

All were delivered in the Barriger red paint, most were repainted in Whitman green with yellow strips. At least four of the Darby cars were donated by the UP for display. Many were sold to salvage yards for scrap, then purchased by cities and individuals. Some are on display outside ex Katy passenger depots that have been saved. One of the International Car Company built caboose has been recently repainted and is on display in Boonville, Missouri outside the only surviving mission style Katy Depot. The Katy's USA Bi-Centennial decorated caboose, "The Spirit of 76" is on display at Windsor, Missouri.

Infomation from the Caboose Corner series by Jerry Pitts from the June 1991, KRHS "Katy Flyer" Magazine.
